The “Rock Kids” incursion (Yrs P-6) is designed to provide students with an unique opportunity to see a rock band and venture into its inner workings - how the bass and drums work together as the rhythm section, what guitar sounds can be created using effects, how voice is used to sing melodies or harmonies, plus much more! Using songs and performance, the show covers the following elements of rock music:
- equipment, instruments and their sounds - layering of instruments to create an overall soundscape - the rock style (as compared with other musical styles) - era/style/costume - music as a career choice
Selected students are brought up to perform with the band during the show using percussion instruments, ‘air guitars’ and ‘air microphones’ whilst the audience are encouraged to use ‘body percussion’ and voice to participate.
The show is entertaining, engaging and designed to enhance and support the Victorian Essential Learning Standards Music Curriculum. Pre and post show educational enrichment activities (VELS Levels 1-4) have been developed by an experienced teacher and education consultant, Lisa Keskinen, to complement the show and will be provided upon confirmation of booking. So the show can be used to build on preparatory work done in the classroom, or booked purely for entertainment value.
The show is 60 mins duration (50mins plus 10min Q&A.)
The OzRockStar band may consist of 4 or 5 members depending on school budget. |
