This incursion (Yrs P-6) provides students with a unique opportunity to venture into the inner workings of a rock band - how the bass and drums work together as the rhythm section, what guitar sounds can be created using effects, how voice is used to sing melody or harmonies, plus the keyboard’s role in a band (if 5 piece show option is selected-see ‘Show Options’.)
The show touches on the following elements of rock music:
- equipment & instruments, their role in the band and their sounds
- layering of instruments to create an overall soundscape
- the ‘rock’ style of music (as compared with other styles)
- era/style/costume
- music as a career choice
Some students may be selected to perform with the band using percussion instruments and ‘air guitars’.
The show is designed to entertain, engage and support the Victorian Essential Learning Standards Music Curriculum. Pre and post show educational enrichment activities (VELS Levels 1-4) have been developed to complement the show (available under ‘For Teachers' on this website.)
Showtime is 60 mins duration (50mins plus 10min Q&A.)

‘Rock Kids’ is an interactive performance that explains the logistics, history and style of modern music within the format of a rock concert.

The basic ‘Rock Kids’ line up is a 4 piece band - drums, bass, electric guitar and vocals. If budget permits, keyboards can be added as an extra instrument making it a 5 piece show.
